Miley Cyrus Photo Shoot With Terry Richardson Acceptable? Well, Madonna Says, 'When You're 25, It's A Little Bit Easier To Be Daring'

Although Miley Cyrus' photo shoot with Terry Richardson was a shocker, Madonna says a pop star is expected to be "daring" in their twenties.

In the November issue of Harper's Bazaar, the predecessor to Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus wrote an essay illustrating her wild rise to fame.

She admitted that in her twenties she was more willing to take risk.

"When you're 25, it's a little bit easier to be daring, especially if you are a pop star, because eccentric behavior is expected from you," said Madonna.

Madonna recalled moments were it was necessary for her to be an exhibitionist when she first arrived in New York after dropping out of the University of Michigan in 1978.

"Trying to be a professional dancer, paying my rent by posing nude for art classes, staring at people staring at me naked. Daring them to think of me as anything but a form they were trying to capture with their pencils and charcoal," she wrote.

By the time she was famous, those nude photos appeared in Playboy  magazine.

It may look like Miley Cyrus is following Madonna's rebellious behavior with her racy photo shoot with Terry Richardson, but there is one big difference. Madonna went nude just to get by.

"I was defiant. Hell-bent on surviving," said Madonna. "On making it. But it was hard and it was lonely, and I had to dare myself every day to keep going."

Madonna's essay also included the story of how she was raped at knife point when first coming to the Big Apple.
