Apart from its usual mystery-filled and action-punched episodes, 'The Vampire Diaries' Season 5 will have brand new twists as Elena and Caroline start their lives as preppy college girls.

The vampire flick's first episode, 'I Know What You Did Last Summer', officially starts with a montage of how the gang relished the last few days of their summer. Elena and Damon never failed to miss a chance having passionate scenes whereas Caroline was seen packing her things while reassuring Tyler that soon they'd be together. Jeremy, who's now living in the Salvatore house, accidentally catches his sister and Damon during one of their steamy moments. To mask Bonnie's death, Jeremy is similarly texting Elena as Bonnie.

As for cured vampire Katherine, she's clearly not adjusting well to her new life as a mere mortal.  Unexpectedly, Matt is having a threesome with Rebekah in Prague. With school about to start, it will be difficult for Jeremy to explain why he's still alive. After all, his classmates already had a tribute for him. How he'll make an excuse is yet to be seen.

Caroline continuously encourages Elena not to call Stefan as it will only add to his struggle. Elena also became melancholic when she told Caroline that Mr. Gilbert first fell in love with medicine at Whitmore College. Since Whitmore has its own share of supernatural secrets, Mr. Gilbert might have explored the university's history during his younger years. As the two girls celebrate the new chapters in their lives, there was a knock at the door from their new roommate, Megan. Is she a threat to the girls' identities? Does she have secrets of her own?

These questions will soon be answered in the coming episodes of 'The Vampire Diaries' Season 5.
