X-Men Days Of Future Past Cast: James McAvoy Wants To Make A Thundercats Movie; Describes Latest Role As A ‘Maddie’

Not content with the X-Men franchise and Professor X, James McAvoy professes his love for another animated series. He also describes his latest movie, "Filth" as a brilliant journey into madness.

"The other cartoon I loved was Thundercats. It's not really superhero-ish. They're on a different planet, in a different time possibly, in a different dimension maybe. There's a great trailer online, a fan made. They brilliantly take Brad Pitt and turn him into Lion-O, and make Vin Diesel Panthro. And who's Cheetara? I think it's the girl from Farscape. And Hugh Jackman is Tygra. And he looks amazing as Tygra. I would love to see that bit (which clearly won't happen) but I'd really love to see a Thundercats movie.

Lion-O is a great character for any actor. It's a little bit of a cartoon, but you could really go for a 12 year old in the body of a man, who's a ripped muscly fighting man who's the king of a people, but who has the intellect of a 12 year old. That's basically the movie vice versa but with superpowers and the Sword of Omens. That could be an Oscar as well as Box Office bait."

The Thundercats movie has long been proposed following the success of other 80s cartoon franchises like "Transformers" and "G.I. Joe."

James McAvoy is currently promoting "Filth." Directed by Jon S. Baird and  it's an adaptation of a novel by Irvine Welsh. McAvoy, probably the most in-demand actor in Hollywood, shares what drew him to the project in an interview with GQ:

"It was the script. 30 pages in, I was really enjoying it but I was going "there better be depth to this". But 40 or so pages in I thought "he is mentally ill" and then I thought, "f***, I'm in". This is brilliant, not just because I want to play somebody who is a maddie but because suddenly here was this really entertaining and really unpalatable guy that I was surprised that I wanted to hear more about. He suddenly had depth. He is afraid of black people, he is afraid of Japanese people, he is afraid of women, he is afraid of men - he is afraid of men - he is afraid because he is probably gay. He is afraid of the colour of the carpets, he is afraid of animals - he is afraid of being an animal - that is why he starts to see animals everywhere.  That is what drive him insane, his fears - because his fears, unlike you and I hopefully, his fears take control of him. If I truly believed I couldn't pay the mortgage when in fact I could, that means I am delusional, and his delusions are much grander than that. They are much more fantastical than that. The line between insanity and sanity is broken down."
