‘The Conjuring’ Breaks Box-Office Records! ‘Disturbing’ Sequel Confirmed By Patrick Wilson

Summer's surprise horror hit "The Conjuring" has broken records for horror movies released in the summer. It has also reached a milestone, placing it among all-time horror hits.

The Blumhouse Production won the gamble for New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures. A horror movie in the summer is usually drowned out by the bigger action hits. "The Conjuring" bravely carves its own niche.

The staggering numbers according to Bloody Disgusting.com: "To put its $137M in perspective, the 2002 The Ring was highly considered one of the biggest horror films in the past decade - and that "only" took in $129M domestically. How does Paranormal Activity stand up next to ConjuringPA made $107M, which is huge considering any horror film topping $100M is a big deal.

BUT $137M? WOW. While biting at the ankles of Blair WitchConjuring is currently behind What Lies Beneath ($155M), The Exorcist ($232M) and The Sixth Sense ($293M), not taking inflation into account.

It gets a bit more insane when you look at the international numbers, which put The Conjuring on the cusp on $300M. When comparing to the aforementioned films, The Conjuring is now the third highest grossing supernatural horror film ever, only behind The Exorcist and The Sixth Sense."

With that success, the sequel is already in play. Despite the departure of director James Wan, they have already embarked on further research work. In an interview with Den of Geek, lead star Patrick Wilson seems relates: "I mean we're going to do a sequel to that. Yeah, Chad and Carey [Hayes] have come up...They said one about a case in London about two sisters that were possessed. I mean there are thousands of cases, so there may be more than one. I don't know, I have not read a script."
