Epik High Celebrates 10-Year Anniversary With '420' And Help From Some Very Famous Friends

Korean rap group Epik High celebrated their ten year anniversary on October 23 with the release of a new track for their fans.

Members Tablo, Mithra Jin, and DJ Tukutz called on their impressive group of friends to help them out with the new tune titled "420" and the track features some of K-hip-hop's biggest names.

Among the verse contributors are Double K, Yankie, Dok2, Sean2Slow, Dumbfoundead, TopBob, and MYK and the track is a frenzy of English and Korean lyrics with a heavy sprinkling of curse words.

Each of the rappers take turns delivering their individually prepared verses capped at either end by Tablo and Mithra Jin and all nicely sewn together by DJ Tukutz who personally produced the song.

"420" was released on October 23 at 10pm KST to celebrate Epik High's ten year anniversary since their debut in 2003.

"It's more like Epik High to give a present to fans who have supported us for ten years, than to take gifts from them," said frontman Tablo about the single's sudden release.

The title of the track, according to the group's agency, YG Entertainment, comes from the fact that recording ended at 4:20am.

It is also a play on words as '420' is often used as a code for smoking marijuana, or getting high, and in this case a reference to the group's name - Epik High.

The song itself follows a pretty standard multi-featuring rap song format, but is nonetheless entertaining. Not only is "420" a nice exhibition of Epik High's musical talents, but a sonderful showcase of the wide spectrum of Korean hip-hop in general.

In true hip-hop fashion, there are even a few messages to others hidden among the lyrics.

In particular, in Dumbfoundead's verse he references the headline-grabbing dis battle that was waged between Swings, Supreme Team, and Dynamic Duo (as well as many others who jumped on the bandwagon) two months ago.

"When Korea had their rap beef I thought it was cute,
cause I've been cookin K-barbeque since I was like two,
if Kendrick is the king of New York and New York cats sound like Houston,
than some rappers in Seoul sound like Dr. Seuss's.
No offense, you know all of yall are true friends,
but I don't give a f*ck about your pictures with your new Benz.
talkin' bout trill shit? let's take a field trip,
I'll take you where they kill and deal shit, that's some real shit."

In addition to the special anniversary song, Epik High also released a minute-and-a-half-long video of Tablo, Mithra, and DJ Tukutz working on some new music.

The song "420" is available as a free download via Soundcloud.

Happy anniversary, Epik High!
