Jolla Smartphone Getting A Price Cut, Now Costs €349

The Jolla smartphone is a dream come true for former Nokia employees who continued to develop a mobile platform similar to the MeeGo OS which was last seen in the Nokia N9. In the same way, it is also a great way to bring back the nostalgic years where Nokia is the top phone manufacturer and neither Apple or Samsung can do anything about it.

However, when the smartphone launched in 2013, it was priced a bit high at €399 or around $543. It was like getting a vintage smartphone just because it has something 'old enough' to be considered vintage. On the inside however, it packs mediocre specs which do not really bring something to the table.

In case you missed its launch in November last year, the Jolla Smartphone packs a 4.5-inch display with only qHD (960 x 540) resolution, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory, dual-core CPU and a Snapdragon 400 SoC.

On the camera department is an 8-megapixel camera and a 2MP front cam. The Jolla phone runs on Sailfish OS version 1 though the Finnish manufacturer has already released a number of updates which should be available to those who will be using it the first time.

According to a report by GSM Arena, the Jolla smartphone has just received at €50 price cut to bring the price down to 349 euros or about $475. However, that may still not be enough to get the mass market to support the startup company.

Interestingly, now that Nokia is a part of Microsoft, it could push Nokia fans to get a Jolla smartphone just to bring back the old memories. And with the Sailfish platform still growing, there is still potential that it can rise to at least Blackberry OS's status in the market right now.
