Amazon Kindle Phone Release Date Draws Near As Retail Giant Hosts Mysterious Event On June 18

For the past few months, we have been hearing and reading reports about the Amazon Kindle phone. The rumor followed reports that Amazon's Kindle tablet lineup managed to get the second highest web traffic generated by any Android manufacturer aside from Samsung.

That makes Amazon the far second when it comes to web browsing in Android devices in North America, including the United States and Canada.

From previous reports by BGR and GSM Arena, the Android-powered device will run on the latest version of Android, though it would also be heavily skinned by Amazon's Fire OS, just like the Kindle tablets. There are also allegedly leaked images which show that the Kindle phone would have five front sensors which would be able to sense where the user is looking.

Indeed, it may seem like something that came out of a sci-fi movie, but today a report shows that Amazon released a video clip showcasing such feature to customers. And though we do not see the actual device, it is highly possible that the smartphone in use is the Amazon Kindle phone.

In the report by GSM Arena and TechRadar, it looks like Amazon will be holding an event on June 18 in Seattle. However, the company has yet to send out any invites to the press and analysts who may be interested in the event's focus.

Interestingly in the video, Amazon asks the audience to request invites for the June 18 press launch, which may seem a bit odd, but it does increase hype points for the Kindle phone, in case it does make its debut.

In case you missed some rumors about the Amazon-made Kindle phone, it allegedly packs a 4.7-inch display with HD (1280 x 720) resolution, 2GB of RAM, a Snapdragon chipset of unknown variant and the controversial 5 front sensors which can track iris movement.

And knowing Amazon, it would certainly attach an affordable price tag to its first ever Kindle phone - making it an ideal option for online shoppers who happen to be Android fans as well.
