Manny Pacquiao Named As Head Coach Of Philippine Basketball Association Team, Kia; Ex-PBA Player Pushed Him Not To Play, Filipino Boxer Says Basketball Was His First Love

Boxing Champion Manny Pacquiao is hopping from one sport to another as he is now named as a head coach of a Kia team in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) in his home country.

Pacquiao made the announcement recently in a press conference of the Kia team, as they will be one of the three new teams that would enter the PBA league this coming October for the new season.

One goal was on Manny's mind to start the season and it is "not to be embarrassed" with his team as he will be facing other experienced coaches in the league that has been coaching for decades already.

This move turned heads for a lot of his fans and a lot of PBA fans, saying "he had a lot of guts", especially when he first made an announcement to play before deciding to coach a team.

As opinions of fans would say, he might be a king on the boxing ring but it will be a lot different once he stepped on the hard wood.

Manny Pacquiao said in an interview that "We may not be that good, but we will make the team better. I will have the players go through my training."

"Playing might not be my forte, and I honestly know nothing about playing in that level. I should focus more on coaching first." he said about the game he said to be his first love before boxing.

PBA assistant coach Kenneth Duremdes, meanwhile, said that he was the one who pushed Manny to stay away from playing in the professional level and take on the coaching position instead.

"PBA, this is professional level. Manny is playing only in the amateur level, he hasn't even played college ball. (In) exhibition games, Manny can play, (but in the) professional level, (he has a long way to go)," said Duremdes, who had played against the 35-year-old boxing champion numerous times in the past.

"If I am to choose for him, (I would let him coach a team instead)."
