Just more than a week ago, he was a part of the Oklahoma City Thunder's roster. Today, Derek Fisher is coach of the New York Knicks. 

In a press event, Hall of Famer coach Phil Jackson, now manager of the Knicks announced that Fisher will take the helm of the team after Mike Woodson was fired. 

As a part of the Lakers' dynasty early in the 2000s, Fisher was considered by Jackson as fit for the job. In spite not having any previous coaching stints in the past, the 39-year-old former clutch point guard thinks that his playing career as primarily a facilitator will help him shape a struggling Knicks team.

This season, New York failed to make it to the Playoffs, and in spite another stellar year for Carmelo Anthony in terms of his scoring output, the Knicks have yet to even step to the Conference Semi-finals for the past years. 

According to the report, Fisher will definitely bring with him what it takes to make it to the Finals, and win it. During his 18-year career in the NBA, the new New York managed to grab five championships during his stint with the Los Angeles Lakers, all during the tenure of Jackson, now Knicks general manager. 

In his statement, Jackson even said that he told Fisher to bring with him his five championship rings when he talks to Carmelo. Speaking of which, Fisher told the media that he will definitely do whatever it takes to keep the team's leading scorer. 

In addition, the Arkansas-Little Rock product said that he would bring back the championship DNA that has long been gone from the New York Knicks. The last time the Knicks won a championship was in 1973, and it has never entered the Finals since 1999 under coach Jeff Van Gundy.

With Fisher knowing the triangle so well when he played under Jackson in LA, he could finally bring the Knicks into title contention next season, that is if Anthony stays.
