2014 NBA Free Agency Rumors & Predictions: Jeremy Lin - Deron Williams Trade? Omer Asik Also In The Deal For Former All-Star Point Guard! Last Option For Houston Is Very Risky!

The 2014 NBA Free Agency Rumors & Predictions will take wild and crazy turns. It is almost certain that the Houston Rockets will make a move!

The Rockets fans were very disappointed after an unceremonious exit in the first round. Houston's high hopes with arena-wide banners of Dwight Howard came to a disgraceful exit.

The Rockets seem to think they need to make a move. They have been very vocal about their pursuit of Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Love, but they may not have the assets to pull it off and the stiff competition may leave them empty handed. In their search for a star, what is their last resort?

A desperation move on a player they coveted a year ago may be the answer. From Bleacher Report:

"A Williams deal could be complicated, though. He is set to make $63 million over the next three years, and, though he still sometimes shows flashes of his previous All-Star form, any potential trading partner would likely worry about his ankle issues. This means it'd be difficult for Brooklyn to bring back a player who could bring anything close to equal production in exchange for him."

It's a workable deal, but why would the teams want to do this?

"The Nets need to begin accumulating assets after emptying their cupboards in the trade that netted Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. Since Brooklyn billionaire owner Mikhail Prokhorov seemingly doesn't bat an eye at the NBA's prohibitive luxury tax, the massive "poison-pill" payments for Asik and Lin might not dissuade him like they would other suitors."

For the Nets, any deal that gives them younger players, and a two for one trade (albeit everyone here is overpaid) is better for them. Lin is also a Big Apple favorite--can you still remember Linsanity?

"Houston wouldn't be losing much in terms of talent; it would simply be putting all its eggs in the basket that Williams, James Harden and Dwight Howard can constitute a title-winning Big Three in the next few seasons. It's an admittedly risky play, but if D-Will reverts to his former All-Star form, it's a gamble that could result in a Larry O'Brien Trophy for Daryl Morey and Co."

It's almost like change for change's sake for the Rockets. The only problem is that Williams has a long term deal until 2017 whereas Lin/Asik expires next season. They really need to look long and hard at this one.
