'Sandman' Writer Neil Gaiman Makes Video Game Debut With 'Wayward Manor,' Release Date Announced, Available On PC And Mac

The video game developer The Odd Gentleman has announced that "Sandman" writer Neil Gaiman's video game debut, "Wayward Manor," is coming to PC and Mac via Steam on 15th July.
Neil Gaiman, is an author whose works includes "The Sandman" comic books and novels "American Gods," and "Coraline." This is one of the first times an acclaimed author has crossed over to video games and may mark the start of a new trend.
Wayward Manor is a puzzle game that where players play as a ghost tasked with spooking the new tenants of a 1920s Victorian Gothic New England estate. All the while the ghost that players play must investigate its own death.

Over 3000 fans supported the partially crowdfunded project when it was announced last Fall. Tablet ports have been announced by publisher Moonshark, though no release date has been set for these.

Wayward Manor is a new game due to be released next month. Developed by The Odd Gentleman and based on an original story by cult writer Neil Gaiman.

The game has been developed by small studio The Odd Gentleman whose first title was the Xbox Live Arcade The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom. A puzzle game that was praised for its idiosyncratic style and its gameplay mechanics drew favourable comparisons to the likes of Portal and fellow indie game Braid.

Since then they've released games for PlayStation 3 and the iPhone.  The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom developer recently announced that it's  working on a game based on Andrew Hussie's wildly popular webcomic "Homestuck." The "Homestuck" game's Kickstarter was the ninth highest grossing Kickstarter campaign in 2012, where it went on to raise $2,485,506.
