2014 NBA Free Agency Rumors & Predictions: LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony Together In Phoenix? Suns Have Plans To Attract Superstar Duo To Lead Young Roster!

The 2014 NBA Free Agency Rumors & Predictions still revolve around LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony.  The big story is the pursuit of teams for one or both of these players.

There are a limited number of teams that have the ability to sign both of these players. The foremost contender is the Miami Heat since they have a record amount of cap space. But the Heat is committed to re-signing not just James Dwyane Wade and Bosh. It is unlikely that they will take massive pay cuts to form the Big Four.

But there is a new contender who can sign both James and Anthony while having a competitive roster around them. The Phoenix Suns is not on the shortlist of teams for both Anthony and James but they should be. Joining a young team that won 48 games in the Western Conference (which was not enough to make it to the playoffs) with a runner-up Coach of the Year and a horde of first round draft picks in the future should entice any free agent.

Can the Suns actually make it happen?

Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski outlines the plan:

"Phoenix is determined to emerge as a legitimate destination for James and Anthony, who have privately shared an affinity for playing with each other in the NBA. Salary-cap structures make it prohibitive for teams elsewhere to fit these two stars together without completely gutting a roster, but Phoenix's general manager Ryan McDonough has constructed a far different reality to sell them in potential meetings next week, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The Suns have $33.5 million in salary-cap space and could shed the next $10 million needed to sign James and Anthony to maximum contracts without unloading the young core of guards Eric Bledsoe and Goran Dragic and center Miles Plumlee that pushed the franchise to 48 victories in the Western Conference last season."

Perhaps the idea of being the lone superstar to lead a young team is too daunting for both LeBron and Carmelo.  James just lost their championship bid despite having Wade and Bosh. He left a situation in Cleveland wherein they relied on him too much. The same applied to Anthony, who went to a gutted Knicks roster after they traded for him.  But if the Suns can keep their core of Dragic and Bledsoe along with their young frontline (which they can) and bring James and Anthony together-that could win an NBA title.
