Nexus 6 Release Date Slated For Q4, Rumor Says Lineup Will Still Live On In Spite Android Silver Launch, LG Not Working On It?

Like Android Lollipop, people were already expecting the Nexus 6 release date during the Google I/O Conference last week, but it looks like all of them get disappointed once more.

Few weeks ago, the Android world received rumors that the Nexus lineup, particularly the upcoming Nexus 6 phone and Nexus 8 tablet, will not push through due to the imminent launch of Android Silver.

However, in a recent report by Design N Trend as well as BGR, Google's head of Android engineering and the Nexus program David Burke said that the Nexus lineup will still live on.

In his interview with Read Write, Burke mentioned that working on a new Android version always require a phone or device where the open source could could 'breathe'.

"When we are working, there are sort of two outputs. We're building a Nexus device and we're building the open source code. There is no way you can build the open source code without the phone or tablet or whatever you are building. You have to live and breathe the code you are developing."

"You can't build a platform in the abstract, you have to build a device (or devices)", he added.

If that is so, then we can expect the Nexus 6 and 8 to be under development already and should be announced during Q4 with a release date before the holidays.

But if the Nexus lineup will continue, who will make it?

In a report by Android Police, LG's communications director Ken Hong recently answered questions whether or not the Korean manufacturer will still work on the Nexus 6.

"I know at least not yet. Normally, we were informed," said Hong when asked whether LG is already given the task of working on the Nexus 6.

LG is certainly still in the picture, though it could also be HTC who will be developing both the Nexus 8 tablet and the Nexus 6 smartphone.

We will soon find out in a matter of weeks or months.
