Nexus 6 Release Date: Specs Of Rumored Handset Incl. Android 4.5 Lollipop, 5.5-inch QHD Display, 1.5GHz 64-Bit Processor; History Suggests 4Q 2014 Release Date

Nexus 6 release date: The rumored specs of what could be the Nexus 5’s successor, the Nexus 6, include a 5.5-inch QHD display and a 1.5Ghz 64-bit quad-core processor. The unit is expected to be unveiled 4Q of 2014 and is expected to run on Android 4.5 Lollipop out of the box.

According to Know Your Mobile, other specs include a memory of 3GB RAM and a fingerprint scanner. Android Geeks, citing a “trusted source” also reported about what the Nexus 6 could look like below:

“Google is in advanced talks with several Asian fingerprint sensor suppliers, hinting that the Nexus 6 will be ready to take on Apple’s Touch ID sensor.”

The expansion of Google’s Nexus devices has been consistent on a yearly basis. The year 2012 was when the Nexus 4 was offered, an unlocked and no-contract smartphone that features high-end specs at what then was considered to be bargain basement prices. The Nexus 5 followed suit in 2013 and according to Know Your Mobile “was, for all intents and purposes, one of the finest devices released last year.”

This leads many to believe then that 2014 would be the year for the Nexus 6. The expectation that the 4Q of 2014 maybe when we’ll see the handset came from a comment by Google’s Sundar Pichar, the company’s senior vice president in charge of Android, Chrome, and Google Apps. He noted that there would be no new devices launching in the first half of the year.

Though there have been earlier speculations that Google will scrap its Nexus line, plenty of reports suggest otherwise.

In fact, numerous speculations still point to LG as the manufacturer of the Nexus 6. It is important to note that the company consistently denied that it would be the OEM for the Nexus 5, which by the end of last year turned out to be false.

There is also the reality that Android L, Android TV, and Android Wear has been unveiled, the latter with a slew of smartwatches using the OS. It is just logical that Google reveal the follow-up to its popular line of handsets.

Base on previous launches, the Nexus 5 was unveiled October and was on sale on Google Play by November. The same goes for the Nexus 4. Android L is also expected to be launched last quarter of the year.

Keeping this in mind, it’s still a very strong possibility that Google may have Nexus 6 in the works and available right before Thanksgiving.
