France will face off against Germany in a quarterfinal match of the Brazil World Cup 2014 tournament, pitting two of the tournament's strongest teams against each other.

France, ranked 17th in the world, is expected to be the underdog in the match.

The European team's coach Didier Deschamps said France will write a new chapter of football history against rival Germany.

"We have played a very good World Cup and we will have a major opponent in Germany who is used to these situations," he said, according to Sky Sports.

"They always seem to get to the quarter-finals, semi-finals or final so are more experienced."

Germany, ranked second in the world, is expected to be the favorite of the match.

The European team's manager Joachim Löw warned against underestimating Frances' expected performance for the upcoming game.

"Personally, I cannot remember a group stage in which so many of the favorites were knocked out," he said at a press conference, according to The Guardian.

"But tournaments are marathons, not a 100-metre sprint. Many nations in the past have won their first three games, and then lost their fourth. We've seen it all before. A team's got to be able to raise their game all the time. If you can manage that, then that's a masterstroke."
