Android 4.4.4 Kit Kat Release Date Rolling Out To HTC One M8 And One M7 GPE

The latest version, Android 4.4.4 Kit Kat release date was quietly announced a few weeks ago, and with it comes a few minor tweaks to improve performance. In a new report, the new update has begun rolling out to the GPE versions of the HTC One M8 and the year-old flagship One M7.

According to a report by GSM Arena, the update has just been released and users of the said devices should expect the update in a matter of days.

As a member of the Android 'first to update' group of smartphones, the HTC One M8 and One M7 GPE versions should get the update faster than standard editions.

Google has introduced this system last year where it included a number of popular devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S4, LG G Pad 8.3 tablet, Sony Xperia Z Ultra, and the midranger Motorola Moto G.

Together with the Nexus devices, the GPE handsets and slates enable Google to update and bring the latest version of Android to more devices spanning different manufacturers and market groups.

In the report, the changelog for Android 4.4.4 Kit Kat include the following:

  • CTS test for OpenSSL's early CCS issue (CVE-2014-0224)
  • Fix a concurrency bug in OpenSSLHeartbleedTest.
  • CTS test for Heartbleed vulnerability in SSLSocket
  • Block access to java.lang.Object.getClass in injected Java objects
  • For the past several months, HTC has been doing a good job updating its devices to the latest Android version. When KitKat was launched, the Taiwanese manufacturer promised that it would roll out the updates within 90 days after it receives the final build.

HTC was true to its word, and so now that Android 4.5 L would soon be released, the manufacturer will do whatever it takes to be the first OEM to send the update to its recent phones.

Still, GPE versions of Android devices should get any new update days after it was announced.
