Nexus 8 Release Date Sooner Rather Than Later As Android Tablet's Prototype Was Spotted In India For Testing

Earlier this year, we have read rumors about the Nexus 8 release date arriving before the year ends. However, even when Google held its I/O Conference last month, no word was mentioned about the upcoming Android tablet.

However, in a new report by GSM Arena, it appears that the upcoming tablet has been under development for some time now and could be released in a few weeks.

According to the report, a prototype of the Nexus 8 has appeared in a document in India which tracks records of imports that arrive in the country.

Unfortunately, the label of the device vaguely describes it as 'similar to Nexus (7)'. So does tha mean the Nexus 8 would look like the previous generation model?

That would be highly unlikely, as previous reports mentioned that Google has allegedly tapped HTC to work on the next tablet. This means this could be the first Nexus tablet which is not made by Asus in the last two years.

In reports, the Nexus 8 tablet would pack 8.9 inches of screen real estate, which means it can be dubbed as either Nexus 8 or 9. Just like its predecessors, it would certainly arrive in the market packed with the latest Android version.

Some of the alleged specs of the device include a Tegra K1 chipset from NVIDIA which supports 64-bit programs, 2GB of RAM and either a 16GB or 32GB built in storage with microSD card slot. Other rumored specs also include an 8-megapixel camera at the back and a 3MP front cam.

While there are no official release dates yet, or whether this Nexus 8 or 9 would indeed be released this year or not, the fact that it has been shipped to India from the US means it is nearing completion.

Unfortunately, we cannot confirm at this point which manufacturer has been working on it.
