Whitney Houston Biopic News: Lifetime's Whitney Houston Biopic Won't Be A Family Affair

Whitney Houston Biopic News: The Whitney Houston Biopic on Lifetime will be less than a family affair,. Bobbi Kristina Brown, Whitney Houston's daughter  took to Twitter to blast Angela Bassett on her decision not to cast Bobbi as her mother in an upcoming Lifetime Channel Whitney Houston biographical movie. Lifetime recently got blasted in the press for its Aaliyah biopic.

Yaya DaCosta would be playing the role of Whitney Houston. 33-year-old Belizean actor Arlen Escarpeta was cast as Bobby Brown and Yolonda Ross is set to portray Robyn Crawford. Escarpeta was last seen on screen "Final Destination 5," "Friday the 13th" and "Star Trek Into Darkness." Yaya DaCosta made her television debut in Cycle 3 of "America's Next Top Model." Yolonda Ross was last seen on HBO's TV movie "Phil Spector" and the series "Treme."

Angela Basset is set to make her directorial debut with "Whitney" but she decided to keep Houston's daughter, Bobbi Kristina, out of the picture.

"I did not think about casting her. And probably for a number of reasons, you know. One being that she's not an actress. I know she's acted here and there. I know she's been on their family's reality show, but she's not an actress and acting is a craft," Bassett told Entertainment Weekly.

Earlier this month it was announced that former "America's Next Top Model" contestant Yaya DeCosta will play Houston in "Whitney." DeCosta was a child actor who had recurring roles on the TV Shows "All My Children" and "Ugly Betty" and the filmns "Lee Daniels' The Butler" and "Tron: Legacy."

According the a Lifetime press release "Whitney" "chronicles the headline-making relationship between the iconic singer, actress, producer and model and singer-songwriter Bobby Brown-from the time they first met at the very height of their celebrity, to their courtship and tumultuous marriage. Throughout it all, difficulties followed the superstar couple while they dealt with the overwhelming rewards and consequences of the fame and fortune created by Whitney's meteoric rise that would soon overshadow them both."

"It's an attempt to illuminate the complexities of human behavior and life," said Bassett. "And this is a very fast-paced schedule; we have just 21 days to tell this story. It's more than just saying lines and turning the light on. You have to drive the story -- there's a technical aspect."

Angela Bassett worked with Whitney Houston in the 1995 film, Waiting To Exhale.

Bobbi Kristina took to Twitter account over the blast Basset as a "bitch" and a "bassketcase," tweeting "Ha MsAng 'bassketcase;' has such a damn nerve my lord, at least the world doesn't mistake me for the wrong sex...she has some #XtraEquipment."

And later posting "When I win my first Grammy or Oscar, *Shrugs* hmm whichever comes 1st, I'll be sure 2shout URname out b-tch! Hah UrTestResults = Male. Lmao."
I According to The Grio, EW correspondent Nina Terrero, said Bassett made her remarks about Bobbi Kristina "without a hint of malice."

"Angela is one of the sweetest women in Hollywood. This is her directorial debut. She's a well-established actress, but she has everything to lose with this film," said Terrero.
