Samsung Galaxy S4 Active Review: Specs Of Android Handset For Outdoors Incl. 5-inch Full HD LCD Display, 1.9 GHz Processor, 2GB RAM; ‘Not Truly Rugged’

Samsung Galaxy S4 Active review: Specs of the Android-powered Samsung Galaxy S4 Active include a 5-inch Full HD LCD display, 1.9GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, and a built-in storage of 16GB. Samsung touts the handset as a, “Robust companion for outdoor activities.”

But a note by CNET says that the phone is “not truly rugged.”

In a Phone Arena spec sheet, it noted that the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active’s display is 1080 x 1920 pixels. Its body is 9mm thin and has an 8MP camera on the back. Storage expansion for the unit is possible thanks to a microSD slot, which allows it to have up to 64GB storage. Pixel density of the unit is extremely high at 370 and its also water- and dust-resistant. It comes with Android 4.2.2 out of the box but also has Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Active also has a 2600 mAh battery allowing it up to 17 hours talk time, and 13.3 days standby time. Another key feature of the device, which supposedly makes it outdoorsier than other Galaxy devices is that it has a “Glove Touch” mode, allowing you to operate the unit display with mittens on. There is also the “Aqua Mode” in the camera app interface that allows you to take better underwater pictures.

Some pros of the unit as noted by CNET is that it has a sporty design and takes strong daylight photos. The device also has fast internals and works well for some underwater camera fun.

The phone though is not deemed truly rugged with CNET noting that the phone is not as durable as it suggests. As Trusted Reviews also shared, it’s water-resistant but not rugged.

A quick look at Amazon.com shows the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active priced at $419.99 for an unlocked version. It’s typically offered free when you get a 2-year service agreement with a major carrier.
