NBA Draft 2014: Cleanthony Early Replacing Carmelo Anthony? Phil Jackson Makes The Most Of What He’s Got! Prolific College Hoops Scorer Is Draft Steal!

The NBA Draft 2014 has concluded and the draft grades are being handed out. The Cleveland Cavaliers will get high grades by default, but an unfamiliar team is getting high marks. It's the New York Knicks sneaking into the 2nd round and taking a possible Carmelo Anthony replacement.

Cleanthony Early, who people joked was Cleanthony Late (being picked) fell on Phil Jackson's lap after the Knicks traded into the draft. Early was the leading scorer of the Wichita State Shockers and part of why they went undefeated in the regular season.

He plays both forward positions and is built similarly to Carmelo.

Rant Sports declared him the steal of the draft:

"The Knicks got the steal of the draft with Early, who was projected to go as high as 14 overall by some analysts, but fell all the way to the second round. The biggest knock against him that plummeted his stock is his ball-handling, which some teams feel will keep him from playing small forward successfully in the NBA.

That's about where the concerns stop for Early, as the 6-foot-7 forward has a great combination of athleticism, strength and toughness. All of those things helped Early finish through contact, as he finished with 30 and-one's last season."

Very few expected him to fall beyond the first round and it was a good thing for the Knicks.

Basketball Insiers talked to the new Big Apple rookie: "I was excited, I was happy, especially for the fact that I get to stay home next to my mom and be a part of the Knicks organization all at once. It's a dream come true, just be in this position. Getting to come back home is just everything. I couldn't ask for more. It feels very surreal."

Now this 'anthony' really wants to be with the Knicks: "I just had a gut feeling that I would end up in New York, and I just kept believing. When I had an interview with them, I thought I could end up there. How? I don't know. I felt like there was a possibility, even though they didn't have a pick. It wasn't like, 'Why am I having an interview if there's no chance of me coming here?' But the interview went really, really well. Going through the process, you think you might end up somewhere, but you never really know. I was just going to be happy with wherever I went. Then, once they acquired a pick, I was just like, 'Alright man, this could be real.'"

It's a far cry from Melo, but desire and proper tutelage could go a long way. Phil Jackson is making good moves in New York-two phrases that could not be used in the same sentence a season ago.
