2014 NBA Free Agency Rumors & Predictions: Greg Monroe Leaving Detroit? Pistons Can't Trade Josh Smith Or Give 'The Moose' The Max!

The 2014 NBA Free Agency Rumors & Predictions are also rolling for the 'second tier' free agents. Greg Monroe is a big man who can offer the whole package to the team that could take him-because it seems like the Pistons can't keep him.

The dilemma of the Pistons, and Stan Van Gundy of course, is that they are tied with Josh Smith's contract, which amounts to about $ 13 Million with 3 more years tied. The Pistons are also aware that they need to pay Drummond an extension next year. It would be disastrous to pay 3 players who are a poor fit together (and could not bring them to the playoffs) a possible $ 40-45 million a year.

The breakdown according to the Detroit Free Press:

"Monroe's situation remains the same: He wants a max deal.

He preferably wants it somewhere besides with the Pistons. But as a restricted free agent and in a market in which some teams are waiting to see how the LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony melodramas play out, Monroe might not get what he wants.

Monroe can always hope -- all he needs is one suitor to make his wants a reality. But the odds heavily favor him remaining a Piston next season."

Detroit tried the easy solution and trade Smith, but no one took him.

As a restricted free agent, Monroe has no choice but stay in Detroit if they match whatever offer sheet he signs. He's going for the max, but will he be content with the max staying in Detroit?

From CBS:

"This is the big problem with restricted free agency. If you fit with your team, it's great. They get you for seven to eight seasons, you get the money. But in situations like Monroe's, it's up to the agent to navigate the waters.

The best thing for Monroe would be a team where he can be hid, or at least covered for more effectively defensively, that needs post scoring. There are a number of those teams, but few with the resources to make it happen. A promising star has been locked in a dungeon of sucking for the duration of his young career, and the current situation simply may not provide an escape route."

Tough times for young center, unless there's a trade.
