NBA Rookies 2014: Julius Randle Best Pick For Lakers! Former Kentucky Star Doesn't Need Surgery! 'He Could Be The Second Best Player In This Draft'

The Los Angeles Lakers did not get a break during the NBA Draft Lottery and remained at 7th place. However, they seem very happy with what they got. He could be one of the best NBA Rookies 2014-Kentucky standout Julius Randle.

Randle was one of the three coveted freshmen at the start of the 2014 College season. The other two were Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker who went no. 1 and 2 in the draft respectively.

However, they discovered that he did not recover well from an injury back in high school, so they had to attach a screw on his foot. The teams were wary that it might require surgery, and that he might be sidelined for a long time.

ESPN LA however, has officially debunked this:

"Los Angeles Lakers draft pick Julius Randle will not require surgery on his right foot, it was determined Wednesday after Randle traveled to Indiana to meet with foot specialist Dr. David Porter.

Randle had a screw placed in his foot to repair the broken fifth metatarsal, located on the outside of his foot, when he suffered the injury at the beginning of his senior season in high school. Porter examined Randle to make sure the screw would not need to be replaced with a corrective procedure this summer."

He didn't seem to be affected by it in college. From USA Today:

"No offense to Andrew Wiggins or Jabari Parker, but Julius Randle made a strong case that he is college basketball's most dominant player right now. After looking somewhat hesitant and out of sorts in the first half, Randle looked irrepressible in the second half. The 6-foot-9 Dallas native was virtually unstoppable near the basket. He turned in his third consecutive game of at least 20 points and 10 rebounds. Safe to say he has a bright future."

Bleacher Report reiterates that the Lakers need someone like him:

"He's equipped to contribute now, and the short-handed Lakers will welcome his production. Playing time will come his way early and often, which is a testament to his game, not an assessment of the Lakers' current structure."

GM Mitch Kupchak told ESPN LA: "He's going to get minutes, not only because we need players but also because he's going to earn them. That's what he did at Kentucky."

Bill Simmons of Grantland, a known Celtics fan and Laker hater, had this remark in his podcast: "The Lakers were picking 7th and they got someone who could be the second best player in this draft." He did not name who was the first, though, but it seems the Lakers got a steal,
