'True Detective' Season 2 Cast, Release Date, Rumors, And Spoilers: To Premier Next January, Brad Pitt May Play Male Lead, Jessica Chastain Alleged For Female Lead [PHOTO]

"True Detective" was truly this past years breakout t.v. hit, and as it is with all hot shows, there have been a lot of rumors surrounding Season 2. A new leaked first draft of "True Detective" Season 2 script alleges to put some of these rumors to rest.

Various names, even including Brad Pitt, have been alleged to be connected to "True Detective" Season 2, and many rumors had suggested that the new season would feature one male and one female lead. However, the latest alleged leak seems to indicate that producers and script writers have opted for a single male lead for Season 2.

Producers have allowed rumors to swir without comment, and their past remarks have revealed slightly contradictory statements about the new season. But if the new script leak is correct then many of the past rumors can be verified or put to rest.

The leaked first draft script for "True Detective" Season 2 seems to indicate that there will be one male lead, along with a number of male and female co-stars. That would contradict comments made by creator Nic Pizzolatto, who previously had said the new season would feature three leads.

However, some believe that the new leak does not entirely contradict Pizzolatto's comments, and believe that the leaked script's description of "male/female co-stars" would account for the other two leads as well as the main male lead.

Names who have been connected with the parts for Season 2 have included Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain, although after months of rumors, nothing has been confirmed.

Either way, if the leaked script is authentic it would indicate that the production is well underway, and making significant progress already.

"True Detective" Season 1 proved to be a smash hit with fans, and co-starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. They both also produced the HBO crime drama.

Season 1 focused its plot around two Louisiana police detectives and the shocking challenges they experience as they investigate the case of a serial killer.

The plot of "True Detective" Season 2 though will be significantly different in many ways, according to Pizzolatto. The setting will move to California and will possibly deal with more conspiracy theory type of material. This means they are going the same route as "American Horror Story," where each new season is a self contained plot arch with new actors.

The new season is expected to have a release date on HBO in January 2015.
