'My Love Story' Live Action Movie Takes $1 Million In Opening Weekend

Japanese fans of "My Love Story" got a special treat this Halloween weekend as the highly anticipated live action movie finally premiered.

So far, it looks like the film is getting an excellent turnout. But how could anyone resist the lovable giant known as Takeo?

According to reports, the "My Love Story" live action movie opened in Japan this weekend and raked in about $1.1 million in ticket sales (137,954,800 yen). In addition to the solid turnout, the film also took the third spot in the Japanese box office behind "Galaxy Kaido" and "Pan."

Kentarō Sakaguchi as Makoto Sunakawa

Yasufumi Terawaki as Yutaka Gōda (Takeo's father)

Sawa Suzuki as Yuriko Gōda (Takeo's mother)

The "Ore Monogatari" anime adaptation was recently licensed by Sentai Filmworks. Meanwhile, Viz Media is currently publishing the original manga by Kazune Kawahara.

The anime adaptation of "My Love Story" began streaming in the 2015 spring anime season. Studio Madhouse is handling the animation production with Morio Asaka directing. Natsuko Takahashi is in charge of the series scripts. Crunchyroll is currently streaming the series outside of Japan.

For those who are not familiar with the series, Viz Media describes "My Love Story" as follows:

"Takeo Gōda is a giant guy with a giant heart. Too bad the girls don't want him! (They want his good-looking best friend, Sunakawa.) Used to being on the sidelines, Takeo simply stands tall and accepts his fate. But one day when he saves a girl named Yamato from a harasser on the train, his (love!) life suddenly takes an incredible turn!"
