Golden State Warriors Forward Harrison Barnes Declines Contract Extension; DId He Make The Right Decision?

The Golden State Warriors and forward Harrison Barnes were not able to come to terms with regards to a new contract.

Barnes, is confident that he will get a bigger deal compared to the initial 4-year, $60 million contract offered by the Warriors.

The young forward shared his humble beginnings and how his family bet on him so much that if his dreams didn't materialize, he might not event went to college.

"At a young age she was like, 'Do you want to do this basketball thing seriously?' I was like, 'Yes,' " Barnes told Yahoo Sports. "We put all of our resources into basketball, AAU tournaments and doing all this stuff. My sister and mom didn't have any summers off. It was all predicated on me trying to make sure I had the best opportunities in basketball and to get exposure to go to college."

"Had I not been able to get a scholarship, we used all the money for AAU, and college would not have been an option for me. It's a blessing, obviously, to be in the NBA and to be able to provide for them. Whenever another deal gets done, that will be another blessing as well."

With regards to his contract, he declined not because he is dissatisfied with his team, it's just that he is confident that he is more than what he was offered. With that said, he just wants to focus on basketball now and talk about a new contract again once the season is over.

"This is a special locker room, a special team," Barnes said. "I didn't want my contract situation to hang in the air, hang over the first three games. Come to a conclusion. Either the deal is going to get done, or it's not going to get done before the season. ... It's all basketball now."
