The LA Lakers are off to a bad start as they are now 0-4 in a heavily competitive Western Conference. Despite Kobe Bryant returning to the roster, the Lakers are nowhere near as competitive right now.
However, fans can look on the bright side as the team has three talented prospects that might be their main core for many years to come.
Julius Randle has been performing really well after missing all but one game last season due to a torn ACL injury. Meanwhile, Jordan Clarkson has been steady after winning 1st team All-Rookie honors a season ago. But, 2015 2nd overall pick D'Angelo Russell has been performing poorly in his first four games that makes head coach Byron Scott rely to veterans in the team.
The head coach spoke with Baxter Holmes of ESPN.com on how hard it is to balance winning from developing young talents. Right now, the coach admits that he is more focused on winning than giving the reins to the youngsters.
"That is the reality. But the second part of that goal is you've still got to develop the young core of guys that you have. That's my job, to try to win basketball games and in the meantime try to develop young people," Scott said.
"I'm not always thinking about necessarily developing them. I'm always thinking about trying to win. I'm always thinking about trying to win. The development part comes secondary to that, but in practice and everything is where you really work on the development part."
Well, this just means that the youngsters still have a lot to prove if they want more minutes. For the meantime, it looks like it will be Kobe Bryant and Lou Williams taking the leader role as long as they are in the roster.
