'Snowpiercer' To Be Turned Into A TV Series; 'Sarah Connor Chronicles' Creator To Helm Project

The post-apocalyptic comic book-based film "Snowpiercer" is being turned into a TV series.

The 2014 sci-fi thriller was based on a French graphic novel adapted by Korean director Bong Joon-ho (The Host, Mother) marking his first English language film. It starred Chris Evans (Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Age of Ultron), Jamie Bell (Fantastic Four), Song Kang-ho (The Throne, The Attorney), John Hurt (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Ed Harris (Run All Night, The Rock) and Tilda Swinton (Doctor Strange, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Josh Friedman (The Sarah Connor Chronicles) has been tasked to helm the project for Tomorrow Studios. Details on the "Snowpiercer" TV series have yet to be revealed, but the report confirms that Bong is on board the project as a producer along with Dooho Choi and Chan-wook Park, who also produced the film.

Friedman offered his thoughts on the forthcoming project in a statement published by Screen Rant.

"I couldn't be more excited for the opportunity...I'm a huge fan of director Bong's films, especially Snowpiercer," Friedman stated. "I'm a huge fan of Bong's films, especially Snowpiercer. It's great the way the best sci-fi is great - thoughtful, political, funny, scary and sly. And it's on a train. A big f***ing train. What more could you want?"

The original film's plot is basically "an experiment to counteract global warming causes an ice age that kills nearly all life on Earth," according to Acton Institute. "The only survivors are the inhabitants of the Snowpiercer, a massive super-luxury train, powered by a perpetual-motion engine, that travels on a globe-spanning track. A class system is installed, with the elites inhabiting the front of the train and the poor inhabiting the tail."

The "Snowpiercer" TV series is still in the early development stages and has no release date yet.
