'Gran Turismo Sports' Release Date Announced; New Game A Prologue To 'Gran Turismo 7'?

Sony has announced a release date for "Gran Turismo Sports," ahead of the elusive seventh installment.

Master Herald reports that it's possible that the makers of the PlayStation is releasing "Gran Turismo Sports" instead of "Gran Turismo 7" since Polyphony Digital is still working on it.

CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Jim Ryan stated that the company isn't ready to announce details about "Gran Turismo 7's" release date yet. He did confirm a "Gran Turismo Sports" release date and confirmed that it isn't a prologue version of the seventh installment, explaning that more can be added into "GT Sports" as DLC, which was not possible in the previous prologue games of "Gran Turismo 4" and "Gran Turismo 5."

"We're not announcing Gran Turismo 7 at this stage," said Ryan in a statement published by PlayStation LifeStyle.

"Fair to say [series director Kazunori Yamauchi] has been making these games for some considerable time now. I think it's reasonable to assume that something else might come down the road. Is it a Prologue? No, I think it'll be more than that."

"The old days, when the games were offline, the experience was defined by what's on the disc. You had a distinction between a Prologue and a full GT, it was very stark. When the game becomes more of an online connected experience, that distinction blurs. This will be much more than a Prologue type experience."

Fans have been foaming at the mouth since last year to see the release of "Gran Turismo 7." Polyphony Digital CEO and "Gran Turismo" creator Kazunori Yamauchi, however, promised that the game will be worth the wait.

"I think the quality of the sounds in Gran Turismo 6 will be improved, but most of the work will be done in Gran Turismo 7," Yamauchi told Eurogamer last year about "GT 7's" release date. "The high quality of data that we have being rendered on the PS4, I think is going to make an incredible difference."
