Mark Zuckerberg And Priscilla Chan Give Away Wealth For Future of Baby Girl Max?

Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan's baby girl is finally here and they named her Max. At the same time, the Facebook founder gave away almost all of his wealth for the fulfillment of a promise to his first child.

"Priscilla and I are so happy to welcome our daughter Max into this world!" the post said.

Aside from sharing their joy, the Facebook founder and his better half also penned a letter of promise for a better future for her and her generation in a note on Facebook.

"Like all parents, we want you to grow up in a world better than ours today," the new parents promised in a letter. "We will do our part to make this happen, not only because we love you, but also because we have a moral responsibility to all children in the next generation."

The promised of a better world included preventing and curing diseases, gender equality, boosting technology further and better education, among others.

In order to achieve this, the former Harvard University students pledged a big chunk of their Facebook shares to make sure their promise for their first child would become a reality.

"Today your mother and I are committing to spend our lives doing our small part to help solve these challenges," the note said. "I will continue to serve as Facebook's CEO for many, many years to come, but these issues are too important to wait until you or we are older to begin this work."

"We will give 99% of our Facebook shares -- currently about $45 billion -- during our lives to advance this mission," the note explained as Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan announced the launch of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. We know this is a small contribution compared to all the resources and talents of those already working on these issues. But we want to do what we can, working alongside many others.

Amid the big news of the new baby and their mission, the couple also expressed how grateful they were to everyone.

"Thank you to everyone in this community for all your love and support during the pregnancy," he stated as quoted by NBC News. "You've given us hope that together we can build this world for Max and all children."

As told by Mail Online, Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan had a long battle with fertility issue issues before finally getting pregnant and now enjoying their baby girl, Max.
