‘One Piece’ Film ‘Gold’ Release Date Set On July 23; Movie About Gol D. Roger’s Adventures?

Fans are in for a treat next year as another "One Piece" film will be produced by its creator, Eiichiro Oda and it will be called "One Piece" Film "Gold" per Anime News Network.

So far, no clue has been revealed on what the story is about. But some fans are quick to think that this could be a story about Gol D. Roger and his adventures during his youth as implied by the movie's title.

Also, the past two "One Piece" films, "Strong World" and "Z" were about legends from the past, Shiki and Zephyr, respectively. Although it was announced that both films were non-canon, this might be the time where Oda will give a glimpse on the adventures of the Pirate King.

The manga series began with Gol D. Roger seconds away from being executed as he said the speech that turned the world to the "Age of Pirates." That inspired the series protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy to set sail and find the treasure, "One Piece" that Roger said he left behind.

Since then, little was revealed about Gol D. Roger and his crew. It was only until the crew went to Skypiea Arc that they found out the Pirate King also gone there. There's also the first meeting with Rayleigh, who is the vice-captain of the Roger Pirates.

A flashback on how they first met was shown in the anime and maybe, this is where the new "One Piece" film "Gold" will kick-off. Fans over at YouTube also believe the film will be dedicated to Gol D. Roger and this film might also give a slight hint about "One Piece" and the "Will of D." as well.

Here are some fan theories:
