'X-Men: Apocalypse' Characters: Younger Versions Of Heroes And The Four Horsemen

Here's a rundown of "X-Men: Apocalypse" characters and their backgrounds.

The title villain, Apocalypse a.k.a. En Sabah Nur is played by Oscar Isaac of "A Most Violent Year" and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." While Apocalypse has already been introduced in "Days of Future Past," the upcoming film marks the character's first appearance in his final form. According to Screen Rant, Apocalypse, in the comics, is an ancient mutant that has the ability to manipulate energy and matter.

Cyclops a.k.a. Scott Summers is one of thre "X-Men: Apocalypse" characters that have been recast. Played by James Marsden in the original "X-Men" trilogy, Cyclops will now be portrayed by 19-year-old Tye Sheridan (Mud). Summers has the power to shoot powerful beams from his eyes - which as this stage in his life is difficult for him to control, making his ability more a curse than a gift.

Jean Grey, previously played by Famke Janssen, will now be portrayed by Sophie Turner of "Game of Thrones." In the film, Jean has not yet fully developed her telekinetic and telepathic abilities, although she has the ability to see the future.

Storm, previously played by Halle Berry, will now be portrayed by "Straight Outta Compton" actress Alexandra Shipp. In the upcoming film, Storm, before turning to into a member of the X-Men, is one of Apocalypse's Four Horsemen.

The younger versions of Kurt Wagner a.k.a. Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee) and Warren Worthington (Ben Hardy) a.k.a. Angel are also set to make an appearance in the film. It will also introduce Elizabeth Braddock a.k.a. Psylocke (Olivia Munn) and Jubilation Lee/ Jubilee (Lana Condor) to the Fox's X-Men Universe.

Directed by Bryan Singer and produced by Simon Kinbgerg, "X-Men: Apocalypse" serves as a conclusion to the arc that began with 2011's "X-Men: First Class," and will also open a new chapter in Fox's X-Men Universe.

The new "X-Men: Apocalypse" characters debut on May 6, 2016.
