New Kojima Productions announced after Hideo Kojima left Konami.
Japanese game developers Konami has been a hot topic in the gaming world in 2015. According to Screen Rant, the company was revealed to be making their employees work in "prison-like" conditions, constant monitoring and even demoting some to custodial positions.
Fuel was added to the flame when director Hideo Kojima's name was removed from the marketing materials of "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" right before it was released.
Along with the director's name, Konami also decided to take down Kojima's L.A. based studio, Kojima Productions, ending their 27-year-long relationship. After Hideo Kojima left Konami, "Silent Hills," a game he collaborated with filmmaker Guilermo Del Toro and planned on releasing after MGSV was also cancelled.
Now that Hideo Kojima left Konami, the veteran game director, along with a number of his former Kojima Productions employees, have begun negotiations with Sony for a new video game title.
Sony has officially announced that the new Kojima Productions will develop their first game exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
"PlayStation's history is one of game innovation and great new franchises. Hideo Kojima has been a huge part of that history, and we are therefore delighted that he has chosen to bring his brand new project to life in partnership with PlayStation," Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., said in a statement published by Wired. "We look forward to working with him on an exciting new game and warmly welcome him to the PlayStation family."
Hideo Kojima has also confirmed his new partnership with Sony.
"I will be taking on a new challenge by establishing my own independent studio, and I am thrilled to be able to embark on this journey with PlayStation, who I have continued to work with all these past years," he added. "I cannot wait to deliver, with PlayStation, a game that will become a compelling franchise."
