With reports of an Xbox backwards compatibility in the news, Sony reveals that they also have a PS4 backwards compatibility feature waiting that would allow players to enjoy games seen from the PlayStation 2.
According to a report stated by Wired, a representative from Sony revealed that PS4 gamers would have the chance to enjoy PS2 games in the near future, as they are currently working on the PS2 emulation and the backwards compatibility for the newest console.
"We are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation," a representative reportedly said. "We have nothing further to comment at this point in time."
Furthermore, The Sixth Axis revealed how the technology would work, as Sony is trying to run old games at 60fps, giving games the "modern" look and feel.
"With a noticeably improved resolution and the games running at 60fps, the PS4's emulation process looks to eliminate some of that visual awkwardness when revisiting older games," the site revealed. "Another boon would be the implementation of trophy support."
The site also mentioned how PS4 backwards compatibility could work on installed or downloaded games for now, but would potentially have the chance to work on discs in the future.
"Implementation is also another huge consideration," the site continued. "If, by some miracle, the PlayStation 4 allowed players to redeem free emulated copies of titles by inserting their old discs into the system, for many that would be game, set, and match. That's exactly what's happening with Microsoft and the Xbox One with more and more games from the 360's software library requiring nothing more than an old disc to cement that backwards compatibility process, albeit it from a pre-approved list that comes from working in collaboration with publishers."
Official words from Sony regarding the PS4 backwards compatibility would be available in the near future.
