The Canon 5D Mark IV specs and release date reportedly to be revealed in 2016.
Since it was introduced in 2012, the Canon 5D Mark III has been the go-to DSLR for many professional photographers. While it's a versatile camera that can be used in a wide variety of applications, the beloved workhorse is also over three-and-a-half year old. Now, mirrorless offerings from companies such as Fujifilm and Sony have become all the buzz with features that rival their bulky DSLR counterparts.
But according to Fstoppers, Canon has the chance to take back the spotlight with their upcoming 5D Mark IV model. Here's a rundown of specs they're expecting to see in the 2016 model.
- True Dual Card Slots - While the current 5D offers both CF and SD slots, the SD slot is still slow and peaks at 133x. Though highly unlikely, it would benefit users if the new model features two slots of either the CF or SD.
- Faster Sync Speed - The 1D, which was introduced at the end of 2001 had a sync speed of 1/500, while the 5D Mark III can only sync at 1/200.
- Faster continious shooting - PDNOnline.com claims that a 10fps rate would be ideal for the Mark IV, as it would place itself ahead of rivals Nikon D810 (5fps) and Penxtax's K-3 (8fps).
- Longer Exposure Times - This feature should be present without users resorting to bulb mode.
- Illuminated AF Points - The Mark III's AF points do not illuminate when shooting in Servo mode.
- 4K video - The 5D needs to up its game in order to compete with today's action cameras and mirrorless models.
- Release Date - There will likely be four years between the current Mark III and Mark IV, which many think is too long of a wait.
Other features that many expect to see with the new model include a touch screen monitor, Dual Pixel CMOS AF, USB 3.0. port and built-in wireless transmission.
Canon has yet to announced the official 5D Mark IV specs. The release date for the upcoming model is expected to be revealed in sometime in 2016.
