Selena Gomez, ‘Hands To Myself’ Singer, Is Ready For Her Close-Up; Stars In Indie Film And Announces New Netflix Series

Pop singer Selena Gomez says she hasn't 'touched the Surface of What I'm Able to Do" as far as acting accordign to Variety magazine, which published an interview Gomez did at the Sundance Film Festival.

Selena's latest album, Revival, earned the singer rave reviews. Entertainment Weekly called it "one of fall's sleekest albums" and "as fresh and forward-thinking as the music of indie darlings Tove Lo and FKA Twigs." Now The multi-platinum singer is gettimg set to revive her acting career.

Selena Gomez broke free of her Disney image with the crime film "Spring Breakers." She also had a cameo in "The Big Short." Gomez is growing into heavier parts with her new movie, the Sundance independent film "The Fundamentals of Caring."

"The Fundamentals of Caring." Is a road trip comedy starring Paul Rudd and Craig Roberts (as a teenager with muscular dystrophy, a muscle-debilitating disease that take away physical strength, independence and life.

Gomez also broke news about her new Netflix show.

"It's called '13 Reasons Why,'" Gomez told Variety.

"It deals with bullying and there's a thriller aspect, a young girl in school that leaves these 13 tapes behind."

The former Disney star is taking her turn behind the camera.

"I'm not going to star in it," Gomez told Variety.

"I'm not quite sure if I'll do anything onscreen with it. I'm producing it with my mom. My mom is the reason I did 'Spring Breakers.' She's got incredible taste in a weird, cool way. Four or five years ago, she found this book and fell in love with it. I think I was still in high school. Now we're here. We took our time with it."

But this doesn't mean Gomez will stop being in front of the camera. Selena says she has barely scrathed the surface of the art.

"Yeah. I think there's a lot for me to explore," Selena told Variety.

"I'm in a place with my music where I've gone through this transition and I feel with this album I've been able to grow as an artist. But I feel like in acting, I haven't touched the surface of what I'm able to do. I hope I can continue to grow and get better. I know that's going to take a lot of time, especially if music continues to do what it does."
