Paul McCartney Announces First Live Shows Of 2016; Former Beatle Will Headline Pinkpop And Rock Werchter

Paul McCartney Tour 2016: Paul McCartney will headline two upcoming music festivals in Europe in June. The former bass-playing singer songwriter for The Beatles will top Pinkpop in the Netherlands on June 12 and Rock Werchter in Belgium on June 30.

McCartney played both Firefly and Lollapolooza in the United States as well as closing the Roskilde festival in Denmark.

"I love a festival audience and we plan to close Pinkpop with a massive party," McCartney said in a statement.

"I've not done a festival in the Netherlands before so it will be an exciting new experience for me and for the audience, so we can all rock out together. Get ready Pinkpop we're on our way. See you in June. We've been having so much fun at different festivals around the world in recent years and I can't wait to get to Belgium with the band for our first festival there. I've heard such great things about Rock Werchter so I know it's going to be a big night of rock 'n' roll and partying to remember."

European summer festival headline appearances confirmed

Sunday 12th June - Pinkpop, Netherlands

McCartney recently took part in a landmark collaboration with Skype. He composed first ever audio Mojis in partnership with Skype for Valentine's Day. The partnership harnesses the universal language of music to share content in a new and original way. The Love Mojis, with music by Paul McCartney, is available now on Skype.

Last year, Paul McCartney returned to Tokyo Tokyo's Nippon Budokan arena almost 50 years after the Beatles braved protesters for afternoon and evening shows. The Beatles first played the Budokon arena in 1966. McCartney last performed in Japan in 2013. McCartney spent 10 days in jail in the country 35 years ago, when Japanese immigration officials found marijuana in the band's travel bag in 1980. I personally believe that's what he is singing about in the song "I'm Carrying."
