"ReLIFE" is based on a slice of life and romance genre manga as mentioned in Otaku Tale. This focused on Arata Kaizaki's life that was changed when he agreed to be part of an experiment in the ReLIFE Research Institute.

It all began when Arata Kaizaki, a 27-year-old unemployed man, who seems to fail in every job interview. He had quit his job, which only lasted for three months. One night, he met Ryou Yoake after drinking with his high school friends.

He was offered to take a pill that would change his appearance into a 17-year-old. The pill would allow him to redo his life and to let himself to be a subject for one year in the ReLIFE Research Institute.

After he agreed, he begins his life as a high school student where he met Chizuru Hishiro. She is a socially awkward person with a hidden beauty who wants to have friends. Arata, on the other hand, finds it endearing. As he tries to connect with her and their other classmates, he needs to discover what he lacks in his life so that he can be happy in the real world. Plus, he only has one year to do it.
