As Kpop continues to rise to its peak, another Korean girl group wanted to join the ride. Pristin, a new girl group, aims to make a name in the spotlight as it is about to be given a debut by Pledis Entertainment, the home of other Kpop bands such as Seventeen and After School.
As one of the Kpop groups inside Pledis Entertainment's embrace, Pristin did not escape the public comparison between its "labelmate" SEVENTEEN, a boy band also formed by Pledis Entertainment as cited in Soompi.
Pristin will release its debut album, entitled "HI! PRISTIN", on March 21. The album will contain six various songs including the title track, "Wee Woo" and Pledis Girlz's pre-debut song, "We".
PRISTIN contains a total of 10 members, similar with the other Pledis groups. All of the members contributed in writing the songs and on the album production. The members include Im Nayoung, Kim Minkyeong, Kang Kyungwon, Jung Eunwoo, Kang Yebin, Joo Kyulkyung, Bae Sungyeon, Kim Yewon, Park Siyeon, and Kyla.
The group had a "Bye & Hi" concert last January, bannering its former name "Pledis Girlz". The group also made a hashtag #ByeHi which could certainly mean goodbye to its past name(Pledis Girlz) and hi to its new name(PRISTIN), as cited in K-Pop Amino.
The new group name (PRISTIN) is just an amalgam of the terms "prismatic" and "elastin", giving a colorful and bright picture of the group itself. To the group, this change cues a pristine period as the girls are absolutely ready to face the true nature of the world of Kpop. Now, can we all just say "Bye, Hi" to Pristin?
Their hashtag #BYEHI probably means goodbye to the old (Pledis Girlz) and hi or welcome to the new (Pristin). This definitely signals the new era for these gorgeous girls as they enter the true KPOP world. It is in a way bitter sweet for them, but of course they will be all smiles as their journey begins!
