On BTS's 7th year anniversay, the boys held an online virtual concert called "Bang Bang Con: The Live." It was then revealed by member Jin that if they boys had not renewed their contracts, they would have disbanded on June 13, 2020.
In October 2018, BTS had announced that they would renew their contracts with Big Hit Entertainment. Some were surprised at the news, because it was rare for groups to last as long as they have with all members still signed to the label and active in the group. Others were not surprised though, since they boys were just starting their rise in the Western market at the time and were seen as the group at the forefront of the Hallyu Wave.
During the MAMA awards ceremony in 2019, Jin had revealed during their winning speech for "Artist of the Year" that they were going though a hard time mentally in early 2018 and had thoughts of disbanding despite the success.
"We had a hard time mentally during the beginning of the year. While discussing the future with one another, we even had thoughts of disbandment," Jin said.
On June 16, Tuesday, BTS's Jimin held a live stream on YouTube. There, he talked about the possibility of their contracts ending if they had not renewed it. He said that if the members hadn't agreed to renew their contracts, BTS would have gone their seperate ways on June 13, 2020, and all the members would part ways.
"Starting from three days ago, we would stop seeing each other, if we chose not to renew our contracts," he said. Jimin went on to say that for their 7th anniversary, the boys hugged each other and shook hands whilst talking about how they almost faced disbandment.
On June 13, 2013, BTS debuted with their debut single album "2 Cool 4 Skool," the first from their school trilogy series. They debuted with the track "No More Dream," which charted a number 124 in South Korea. The song fell of the charts quick. Two years later, BTS won their first number one music show win on SBS MTV's "The Show" with "I NEED U." Since then, the group has been rocking the charts in both the East and the West, performing on stages like the Grammys and the American Music Awards (AMAs).
