'Vampire Diaries' Season 5 Spoilers: Stefan Doppelganger Silas Secret Identity Unveiled ‘Quickly’ In Episodes, But What Impact Will This Have On Damon And Elena Romance?

"The Vampire Diaries" season 5 will feature Stefan locked up in a safe and drowning at the bottom of the quarry in Mystic Falls, while his doppelgagner Silas wreaks havoc on the town. But how long will Stefan be out of commission? Executive producer of "Vampire Diaries" Julie Plec promises it won't be forever.

In the season 4 finale, it was revealed that Stefan is actually Silas' shadow self, and is a doppelganger, Hollywood Crush reports.

Unfortunately, right as this was revealed, Silas locked Stefan up in a safe and threw him off a cliff to drown, come back to life, and drown again in a vicious cycle at the bottom of the quarry floor. Meanwhile, Silas will steal Stefan's identity, as no one in Mystic Falls knows that Stefan...isn't actually Stefan.

Executive producer Julie Plec told Hollywood Crush that it won't be too long before someone comes to Stefan's rescue, thankfully.

"I think the unveiling of the Silas secret identity treachery will happen quickly, because we tend not to drag that stuff out too long on 'The Vampire Diaries,'" Plec promised.

But this won't stop Silas from milking the moment.

"It won't stop him from continuing to exploit the fact that he is Stefan's doppelganger," Plec said. "And with Stefan locked at the bottom of the quarry floor for a little while, we'll see Silas taking full advantage of that."

Once Silas' secret identity is revealed, it'll have an interesting impact on Damon and Elena's relationship, who both think Stefan (who is actually Silas) is going through a phase in Mystic Falls.

"...Once it's revealed to them that Stefan's not just out living his life, that he's actually in jeopardy, what will that do to both [Damon and Elena's] relationship and also to Elena's commitment to college?" Plec mused.
