SpaceX Grasshopper Rocket Test: Successful 100-Meter Sideways Hop, Watch Video HERE

The SpaceX Grasshopper rocket did some crazy maneuvers in a crucial test flight. You can watch the video below.

The new reusable 10-story Grasshopper rocket blasted up over 1,000 feet, swerving around and maneuvering like a remote controlled plane.

Rocket maker SpaceX was founded by Elon Musk, of Tesla Motors and, most recently, the Hyperloop, which may provide rapid public transportation between New York and LA via a pneumatic tube. SpaceX provides rockets and space capsules for the International Space Station for NASA.

The company is attempting to develop a rocket that can return to a Launchpad, rather than burning up reentering the Earth's atmosphere.

The key test flight of the SpaceX rocket indicated that they may be on their way to success with this due to the maneuverability of the rocket.

SpaceX said in a statement that the test is "an important part of the trajectory in order to land the rocket precisely back at the launch site after reentering from space at hypersonic velocity."

The test took place at the company's facilities in McGregor, Texas, lasting about a minute.

In the video, the Grasshopper SpaceX rocket blasts off, hovers in the air, swaying from side to side, and landed safely on the pad, after rising 1,066 feet.

A reusable launch system would mean big savings in developing and operating rockets for NASA.

SpaceX, formally known as Space Exploration Technologies Corp., has now successfully performed two cargo resupply missions to the International Space Station for NASA-and Musk's company is the only commercial company to do so.
