PlayStation 4 Release Date: Sony To Announce Market Launch Plans For PS4 At Gamescom 2013; Recent Rumors Suggest October 21 Arrival

In just a week, gaming enthusiasts will most probably have an idea as to when is the exact PlayStation 4 release date.

Sony might announce details about PlayStation 4 release date during Gamescom 2013 as hinted on a new information released on the UK PlayStation blog site regarding the media briefing for the event.

Sony posted further provided their plans for Gamescom 2013 and as the post indicated, there will be new information regarding the upcoming titles for PS3 and PS Vita. Sony Computer Entertainment is also expected to announce new software. But ultimately, fans are looking forward for Sony to share a specific PlayStation 4 release date, as well as a complete launch lineup for the next-generation console.

A tidbit from the PlayStation EU blog post reads, "We'll kick off the show at 18:00 BST on 20 August 2013 with a briefing to media on our release plans for PlayStation 4, as well as updates on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita."

Meanwhile, the recent PlayStation 4 release date rumors suggest that Sony's upcoming console will arrive in the market on October 21, as a post about it on Neogaf created buzz in the gaming world.

A mod-verified NeoGaf user claiming to be an employee from a major retail store shared on the NeoGaf forums, ""Our internal product release schedule from head office dropped yesterday and on Oct 21st an unnamed Sony console will be launched. Fyi all console revisions like the ps360 slims and Wii Mini were listed as ps360 & wii mini. Previously the wiiu, 3ds and vita were also only listed as Nintendo/Sony Console in the product name column."

If this is true, this would mean that Sony's forthcoming console will arrive a full month ahead of a rival product, the Xbox One, putting the PlayStation 4 in a greater market advantage than Microsoft's newest offering. PlayStation 4 price also has a clear advantage as it is $100 cheaper than the Xbox One.

Though Xbox One release date has not yet been confirmed, Microsoft announced that it will arrive in the market in November. Meanwhile, Sony, while still keeping its silence about PlayStation 4 release date, shared that the device will be ready in time for the holidays and shopping season.
