Lady Gaga 'ARTPOP' Song 'Applause' Bombs As Singer Reveals It Wasn't Going To Make The Cut [LISTEN]; Music Video Coming Soon
While gearing up for the release of her official music video to "Applause," Lady Gaga admitted that her "ARTPOP" single wasn't going to make the cut as the song flops.
According to NME, in a radio interview with Ryan Seacrest, Mother Monster confessed that "Applause" almost did not make the album. Thanks to Interscope Records chief Jimmy Iovine, the song was given a chance. The single was actually the 40th song she played for him.
"We played 'Applause' last and Jimmy said to me, 'Well every single record you've played me has been better than the one you played before it, so the last one should be the first single,'" Gaga said.
DJ White Shadow, the producer who worked with the "Born This Way" vocalist on the new album, said that Gaga had way more material besides "Applause."
"It's a result of her dedication," he said. "We wrote 70-100 songs over the course of two and half years."
Maybe Gaga should've stuck with her first instinct because, as the Examiner reported, "Applause" is not getting that much of an ovation. What the icon claimed would be the song of the decade has dropped to number 4 on iTunes and number 8 on Amazon.
Compared to Katy Perry's "Roar" on the road to selling 450,000 digital copies by the end of this week, Gaga's "Applause" is predicted to only sell less than half of that.
Despite the bad luck with "Applause," Lady Gaga is still promoting the release of the single's music video that debuts Monday on "Good Morning America" and Vevo.
