Leicester Square Packed With 70,000 Directioners; Fans Wait For One Direction Documentary Premiere ‘This Is Us,’ Liam Payne Calls Fans ‘Crazy,’ But ‘Best In The World’

Leicester Square is packed with 70,000 One Direction fans, eagerly awaiting the London premiere of their documentary "This Is Us," which will be released this evening. The Directioners, which is what fans of 1D call themselves, are hoping to see the premiere or catch a glimpse of the band mates Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson.

According to The Daily Mail, around 70,000 fans are expected to arrive in the central London park, but 600 have been lucky enough to get wristbands that will put them within touching distance of the boys.

Thousands of people arrived to camp out at the Square despite organizers encouraging people to stay away and watch from home, The Daily Mail reports.

They said: "Event staff on the ground, the Metropolitan Police and Westminster City Council will be working together to ensure the safety of fans, guests and staff on the day.

"We would like to remind fans that the red carpet is being streamed live all over the world, so they can get the best views from the comfort of their own homes."

As reported by Billboard, Morgan Spurlock, the director of the film, described "This Is Us" as  "part concert movie, part behind-the-scenes documentary," according to The Inquisitr.

Spurlock spent a lot of time with the band during filming, and expressed his appreciation for their talent and personalities.

"These boys are so charming and so fantastic, I challenge you to go to the movie and not like them after the film is done," Spurlock said. "Part of the reason they've been so incredibly successful with their fans is that they are so incredibly grounded and normal, and that's what comes off in the movie."

A band mate from One Direction, 19-year-old Payne, said the band's fans were "crazy" but thanked them for their support, The Daily Mail reports.

He said: "To be honest this is why we wanted to make the film because we have some of the best fans in the world so that's why we wanted to do it. We think they are second to none and the dedication they show is amazing.

"We see some of the craziness and there was a day in Amsterdam where we were stuck in a shop because of couple of hundred girls grabbing and pushing.

"Watching it back in the film it is mad. But it is exciting." he added.
