Royal Baby Pictures Released: First Official Photos Of Prince George, Prince William, Kate Middleton Released, Portrait Taken By Grandfather Middleton; Blurry Or Natural?

The first royal baby pictures of Prince George were released, and feature proud parents Prince William and Kate Middleton in the first official photos of the heir to the British throne. Are the official royal baby pictures, which were taken by Prince George's grandfather, blurry or natural?

The royal baby pictures were taken by Kate's father, Michael Middleton, and critics say they are obviously amateur photos, The Guardian reports.

Kate and William pose on their lawn with Prince George and their cocker spaniel Lupo, all grinning widely. Kate is wearing a royal purple dress, William is donning a blue button-up, and George is swaddled in white. The photos were taken early August in Bucklebury, England, where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are currently residing until they take up permanent residence in London's Kensington Palace, The Los Angeles Times reports.

The royals unveiled the two informal photographs of their new family on Monday via Kensington Palace.

William and Catherine, both 31, believed that having a family member snap the photos was the "best way to capture the couple in a relaxed manner," a source told People.

The new family will take more formal portraits at Prince George's christening, which is expected to take place in the fall.

But some are saying the photos are blurry and unprofessional.

"They are lovely snaps for a grandfather to have taken. But in terms of the quality, they are not really what you want for such a historic picture," said Eddie Mulholland, vice chairman of the British Press Photographers Association and a photographer for the Daily Telegraph, according to CNN.

Critics commented on the blurry focus and the lighting, which is a challenge with the sun behind the family in the portrait.

John Keatley, an editorial and celebrity photographer in Seattle, told CNN what he thinks about the informal pictures.

"The amateur image that these photos put across certainly doesn't create the most grand or royal image in the viewer's mind," he said.

"They're decent photos. They're not terrible. But at the same time, they certainly don't have the same shine and pop and feeling of grandeur that you often see from official royal family photos," he added.
