Lily Tomlin May Get Married To Jane Wagner: After 42 Years, Wedding Will Have "No Rings Or Bridal Dresses", "Maybe We'll Be Dressed Like Chickens"

Lily Tomlin might get married to Jane Wagner after a whopping 42 years.

Tomlin, 73, says that due to recent Supreme Court rulings on DOMA and Proposition 8, Wagner and the actress may get married.  However, she's also said she doesn't think marriage has to be the goal.

"With the concept of marriage, I've been a little too flippant and I've said things like, 'I was hoping the gay community would come up with a better idea than imitating heterosexual marriage,'" Tomlin said last September.

Now, however, she's changed her tune. Tomlin and Wagner, who met in 1971, previously didn't believe they'd live to see such a milestone passed.

"We're thinking maybe we'll get married," Tomlin said to press on Monday evening at The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Pre-Emmy Performers Peer Group reception.

"You don't really need to get married, but marriage is awfully nice. Everybody I know who got married, they say it really makes a difference. They feel very very happy about it," Tomlin added.

However, Lily Tomlin doesn't want a traditional wedding.

"No rings, no bridal dresses," she said. "Maybe we'll be dressed like chickens."

Still, Lily Tomlin thinks marriage has its benefits.

"But no, I know plenty of people who married and who are pleased about it and are happy," she continued. "I guess if we had any kids, it would mean something more. Neither of us is religious, so that means nothing to us. I'm proud and happy for it, for people who want to be married. I suppose symbolically it would've been nice if we had gotten married for anybody who's interested."
