Sylvester Stallone In Rambo TV Series Continues Trend of 80s Icon Revivals

Sylvester Stallone is in talks for a "Rambo" TV Series. Sly continues his glorious comeback with the return of his second most iconic character, Rambo (Rocky takes the coveted first place).

The project is a joint venture of Entertainment One and Avi Lerner's New Image company. Entertainment One or eOne is a known domestic TV distributor and New Image is into feature film production.

Their union for this project opens a lot of possibilities. The CEO of eOne, John Morayniss, has released the following statement: "The ability to fuse the big screen and the small screen through Avi's feature film expertise and eOne's domestic production capabilities and international distribution infrastructure, makes for a highly complementary partnership."

The extent of Stallone's participation in the series is still being speculated, but most fans are already excited to see him wear the patented headband and gloriously survive against overwhelming odds. Rambo was an unforgettable symbol of machismo in the 80s, and a re-introduction to a whole new generation is both exciting and challenging.

The "Rambo" TV series, when launched, is not the first iconic 80s hero to be revived. A recent sequel of the Indiana Jones franchise was also an attempt at a total reboot. The A-Team was resurrected in a movie version in 2010, as well as another Die Hard sequel in 2012.

There are talks of a "Robocop" reboot and a remake of "Top Gun" -the movie that made Tom Cruise a household name throughout the globe and spawned a record number of applications to the US Air Force. Arnold Schwarzenegger's recent return to active filmmaking has spurred rumors of another Terminator chapter.

The Superman movie franchise, although introduced in 1978, is often identified as an 80s icon. The success of its latest incarnation, "Man of Steel" may trigger DC Comics' attempt to reclaim the top spot from Marvel.
