LG Confirms Smartwatch, Firefox OS Device Will Release In 2014? Will Be 'An Even Bigger Phone,' Exec Says

LG's mobile communications head in Bulgaria, Dimitar Valev, leaked new details about what LG is planning for the future. Valev confirmed Firefox OS will come to a device, as well as Smartwatch, and likely will be released by 2014.

Valev gave new details in a chat with news site Dnevnik.bg this week, DigitalTrends.com reports.

Valev said the company is interested in building a Firefox OS phone, and that LG could have one ready for the first quarter of 2014, the website reports.

According to TechCrunch.com, the open, web standards-based Firefox OS mobile platform hasn't really had a champion among the big-name smartphones. LG releasing one in early 2014 could really help boost its presence and visibility, the website writes.

Valev said LG might use the just-launched quad-HD smartphone display technology, which is the world's first quad-HD AH-IPS LCD panel for smartphones, NDTV Gadgets reports.

Valev also suggested that the company might unveil a smartwatch next year, however no details were shared. He noted that the company made a watch mobile phone three years ago, the GD910, but it was not successful due to the market, which wasn't ripe yet, the website reports.

However, TechCrunch.com reports that Valev suggested the market is much more primed now for such a product. The smartwatch may be released sometime next year, and will debut first in the U.S. market. It could come with a flexible display.

Valev commented that LG's device will "probably" be released next year, will be "an even bigger phone." This is also seen as the company transitioning to a focus on larger-screen tablet devices, DigitalTrends.com reports.

This new device would be following up the LG 5.5-inch Optimus G Pro device.
