Ben Affleck will officially play Batman in the Man of Steel sequel. This choice fueled rumors that the studio will eventually pursue the Justice League movie. Ben Affleck was the rumored choice to direct the team-up film.

Warner Brothers has officially announced their choice of the acclaimed actor and award-winning director Ben Affleck to don the Dark Knight's cowl in the sequel to the Man of Steel movie released last June. The "Man of Steel" was a massive global hit, reaching 650million$ box office gross globally. 

Warner Brothers has already green-lighted the sequel even before the movie was released. After earning good reviews and overwhelming audience reception, the studio announced its intention to include the Caped Crusader of Gotham as the main supporting character in the sequel. 

Speculations exploded as to who wil play Batman in the sequel. There was a reported offer of 50 million dollars for Christian Bale to reprise the role, but Bale has been adamant in his refusal. Other young actors' names have been dropped, foremost of which was Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who played Robin in the Dark Knight Rises, the final chapter in the Batman trilogy.

Eventually, it has been leaked that they wanted a more mature Batman opposite Henry Cavill. Ben Affleck was at the top of the list, along with Ethan Hawke and Josh Brolin. Zack Snyder believes Affleck is a good choice: "Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry's Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne," Snyder said. "I can't wait to work with him."

Meanwhile, the choice of Ben Affleck fuels speculation that the Justice League movie will push through, and the Man of Steel sequel is a precursor to a DC Comics team up. Affleck has been the rumored director of the JUstice League project.
