Batman Vs Superman Movie: Ben Affleck Tapped To Be The Next Caped Crusader

After an entire month of speculation, the cards have been set: Ben Affleck will play Batman, alongside Henry Cavill's Superman.

In an announcement released by Warner Bros. on Thursday, the 41-year-old actor will be cast alongside Cavill in a film set directly after the events in Man Of Steel. Filmmaker Zack Snyder was particularly ecstatic with Warner Bros' choice.

"Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry's Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can't wait to work with him," Snyder said in an interview according to Bleeding Cool website.

Last month, Warner Bros announced that they would be making a sequel to the box-office film Man Of Steel, that earned $650 million worldwide. Comic fans were quick to provide possible scenarios and character suggestions for the upcoming flick. But when the film company announced that it would be a Superman/Batman face-off, they started to drool in excitement.

Meanwhile, MoS stars Amy Adams, Lawrence Fishburne and Diane Lane will reprise their roles in the said film. According to Screenrant, this milestone of joining two comic icons will serve as the foundation and pave the way for the inevitable Justice League film.

Affleck has last starred in the award-winning motion picture Argo, where he also directed and produced. Some of his recent films include "The Company Men," "State of Play," and "Hollywoodland," for which he received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor.

The Superman/Batman movie, which does not have a working title yet, is set to open in theaters worldwide on July 15, 2015.
